The Flightstream™ AOC-OS is an embedded software solution available to manufacturers of router/Wi-Fi devices designed for providing a connection between passengers and satellite communications transceivers and accommodates multiple satellite systems such as Inmarsat SwiftBroadband, Iridium Open Port, Globalstar, Thuraya, VSAT and other IP based services.
The AOC-OS solution works on most i386 platforms with 2 or more NIC adapters and is available through direct licensing.
The Flightstream™ AOC-OS provides all the features of even the most advanced routers in addition to other critical features which greatly enhance the end-user's satellite internet experience, such as acceleration, optimization and compression, as well as providing a captive portal billing solution for operators that have a need to charge for individual internet access.
The Flightstream™ AOC-OS uses web caching to save a copy of all visited web content to the router's hard disk. If a passenger requests content which has already been downloaded, the Flightstream™ AOC-OS equipped router will deliver the content directly from it's web cache instead of requesting the data on the internet a second time, thereby reducing network traffic and improving access times.
The Flightstream™ AOC-OS also reduces network traffic and data usage by using a ground server to compress the requested data before forwarding it the end user. Our lossless compression algorithms identify statistical redundancy in the requested data, and then reformats the data stream on the fly to deliver the same data with a much smaller footprint. The Flightstream™ AOC-OS can also perform lossy compression on the images your web browser displays when surfing the web, which degrades the image quality to provide up to 90% in data usage savings for image downloads. When using the maximum compression settings the Flightstream™ AOC-OS can also block advertisements and remove large background images from the requested webpage.
The captive portal option on the Flightstream™ AOC-OS, provides a "Pay on Board" billing solution just like a hotel or coffee shop. This option allows the user to pay via credit card to activate the router's internet connection. Air Sat One's billing system allows the operator to set prices for internet access. The operator can choose to pass along the cost of satellite airtime or to mark up the cost of airtime creating an additional revenue source.
